Representative Charlie Dent Plans Legislation for Civil Air Patrol to Conduct Border Surveillance

Rep. Charlie Dent, citing what he called a disturbing lack of federal aircraft monitoring the U.S.-Mexico border, plans legislation that would enable the volunteer members of the Civil Air Patrol to conduct border surveillance.

The bill would authorize the Homeland Security Department to call on Civil Air Patrol pilots to help monitor the U.S.-Mexico border in a bid to stem the influx of illegal immigrants. The main task for the pilots, who don't receive any compensation, would be to watch the border and report activity to border patrol agents on the ground.
